She received her Ph.D. from The Florida State University. She has taught music at the elementary, secondary as well as collegiate levels. In addition to her extensive musical education career, Mrs. Overturf has also worked in the political field. After moving to Crestview, Florida, Mrs. Overturf served as a faculty member at then Okaloosa-Walton Community College where she taught private voice and directed the show choir. In the fall of 1990 she founded the Madrigal Singers, who were later selected to perform for the Florida Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association at the University of Florida in Gainesville. After
leaving OWCC Dr. Overturf returned to church work and private voice
teaching - preparing a significant number of students for acceptance
as voice majors at major universities. In 1994 Marilyn Overturf founded
the Okaloosa Chamber Singers, a chamber choir of 24 advanced singers
from all regions of northwest Florida. Under her gifted choral and
vocal leadership, OCS brings the highest quality of performance and
choral repertoire to our area.
